Dallas Cowboys Trade For 1,200-Yard WR to Help Dak Prescott in Head-Scratching Proposal

The Dallas Cowboys’ receiving corps is a significant unknown, with CeeDee Lamb mired in contract extension talks that have essentially stalled this winter.

Prescott, on the other hand, has a lot of clout because his cap charge for the following season is expected to be $55.45 million, and Jared Goff, Kirk Cousins, and Baker Mayfield are among the quarterbacks who have already inked mega-contracts this offseason. If the Cowboys decide not to bring Prescott back in 2025, Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon suggested that if things don’t work out with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Russell Wilson could start the next season in Dallas.

Unless Jerry Jones and the Cowboys are searching for a bargain-bin veteran to replace Prescott, Wilson is unlikely to fit in Dallas.

Wilson was released this spring after two unsuccessful seasons with the Denver Broncos and signed a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Wilson passed for 3,070 yards last season, with 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions, before being benched for the final two games to avoid his injury guarantee vesting.

Wilson to the Cowboys appears to be a last choice, particularly if he becomes available following a bad season with the Steelers. Similarly, it is reasonable to infer that if the Cowboys do not re-sign Prescott, they are unlikely to re-sign head coach Mike McCarthy, especially considering Dallas’ repeated postseason losses and the fact that McCarthy is entering the final year of his deal.
