Dallas Cowboys expert takes to X and describes how the franchise has ‘butchered’ a key offseason issue

The Dallas Cowboys are still working on a Dak Prescott extension, and the head staff has faced widespread criticism for their decision-making. Jerry Jones has ruffled the media’s feathers this summer with his approach to major player contracts. Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons are all looking for new deals in 2024, but none of them have signed extensions. The Dallas Cowboys have taken a backseat this offseason while other teams get down to business.

CeeDee Lamb takes action in the offseason, hoping to squeeze a new deal out of the front office.

CeeDee Lamb has been adamant about signing an extension and has withdrawn from the team’s summer training to negotiate a new contract. The 25-year-old has fined more than $100,000 in offseason fines for missing required minicamp.

Justin Jefferson, a fellow wide receiver, got a four-year contract extension with the Minnesota Vikings that would pay him up to $35 million APY. As a result, Lamb wants a piece of the pie, and the market has become more costly the longer the Cowboys postpone the transaction. CeeDee Lamb #88 of the Dallas Cowboys celebrates after defeating the New York Giants in the game at MetLife Stadium on September 26, 2022 in East Rutherford.

The Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles signed new contracts with their wide receivers, Amon-Ra St. Brown and A.J. Brown, respectively. Both teams recognized that Jefferson was about to raise the bar and jumped ahead of the transaction.

Ultimately, the Dallas Cowboys did not and will now pay the price if they are to extend Lamb.

Dak Prescott has been patient in the offseason and has been present at all team activities
Their contract philosophy has been a carbon copy of Dak Prescott; the waiting game is seeing the market drive up in price.

The Jacksonville Jaguars handed their franchise signal-caller Trevor Lawrence a new $55 million APY deal.

Prescott knows that he is a better quarterback than Lawrence and will expect a higher pay grade than his counterpart.
The 30-year-old holds all the leverage because of the contract he had signed three years ago, alongside the Cowboys’ waiting game.

Cowboys expert shares his disappointment with fans about Jerry Jones’ delayed approach to several contracts
Dallas Cowboys expert RJ Ochoa took to X and voiced his frustration with the ordeal: “I’m all for Dak Prescott (and any player) getting as much money as he (and they) possibly can. Get the bag.

“But from a team-building and roster construction standpoint… it truly is wild how the Cowboys butchered this process. Again.”

Ochoa is angered by the logic behind the front office’s mindset and is exhausted by the recurring contract approach.Dak Prescott’s 2021 agreement includes no-trade and no-tag clauses, giving him leverage. Furthermore, the Cowboys’ signal-caller has a $55.4 million cap hit, which they have paid in free agency. If Prescott completes his final contract, he will be an unrestricted free agent in 2025, and the market will compensate him appropriately. Despite admitting that money is not a consideration, the 2023 MVP runner-up has every incentive to become the highest-paid quarterback given the leverage he possesses.
