A man who was “pivotal in saving Celtic” has been honoured.

John Keane, an honorary chairman and former director, unfortunately died away yesterday. Dermot Desmond, the club, and other prominent people paid their respects.

In the end, Keane spent £1 million to keep Celtic afloat and prevent them from going bankrupt in the 1990s.

Later, he backed the takeover by Fergus McCann. After more than 20 years as a non-director of the Scottish Premiership team, the lifelong Celtic fan was appointed honorary chairman in 2013.

“All Celtic supporters will always owe John an eternal debt,” the club said in a statement. “John will forever be regarded as one of the Club’s saviors.” “A lifelong Celtic fan and a man of utmost humility and decency, John was instrumental in maintaining the Club’s legacy, accomplishments, and most importantly, continuity.

John’s commitment to keeping Celtic alive for all of us was crucial, and it should never be undervalued.

“We know this was a very special moment for John and his family, so the Club was thrilled to offer John the well-earned honor of raising the League Championship Flag in August of 2013.” John was a huge contributor to Celtic, always thinking about the team first and giving so much of himself to it.

He ought to go down as one of the most significant individuals in the lengthy history of the Club. “A modest man with such warmth, intelligence, and character, John will be sorely missed by a great number of people. Everyone at the club is sending their deepest condolences and best wishes to John’s family during this extremely trying time.

“The Celtic family will be forever indebted to John Keane, as he alone delivered funding in our darkest days,” owner Dermot Desmond said. “He was a modest man who didn’t say much, but when he did, it was always a gem of wisdom.

We are fortunate that Mark, his son and one of our stockholders, has inherited these traits from his father. May he be seated at our Lord’s right hand.” “We have lost a true Celtic great and a wonderful friend today, someone who will always mean so much to Celtic and a man who gave his heart and soul to the Club,” Chairman Peter Lawwell went on.

Over a long period of time, he made a huge contribution to Celtic, but more than anything, his character—his humility, compassion, and love for his family—made him the man he was. “John’s wife Kathleen, son Mark, daughter-in-law Karisma, grandchildren John-Henry, Norah, and Fiádh, as well as his extended family, have our deepest sympathies.

John will live on in our hearts forever.” “John Keane was a staunch and important partner in the takeover, refinancing, and rebuilding of Celtic,” Fergus McCann continued. “I still feel honoured and grateful for his friendship and dedication to the Club and to me. “The meek will inherit the earth, so they are blessed.”
