Rangers are likely to miss out on Nathaniel Adjei after the Ibrox-linked

Rangers are likely to miss out on Nathaniel Adjei after the Ibrox-linked defender agreed to a record-breaking deal to France. Philippe Clement will be trying to get reinforcements to Ibrox.

Defensive players, in particular, are in demand, and Adjei is the latest defender to be connected with a move to the Gers, according to a Sudinfo Sport story published on Thursday (13 June). It was reported that Clement’s team, as well as Anderlecht, were interested in the Hammarby centre-back. However, as soon as some hope developed, it was snatched away from supporters in Glasgow.

That is because, according to Sportbladet (13 June), Adjei is expected to become the most expensive defender in Allsvenskan history following a trade agreement with FC Lorient. Adjei spent the second half of last season on loan in France, and Lorient has now exercised its option to acquire the 21-year-old.
With a fixed fee of £4.8million, in addition to £1.5million worth of bonuses, the total packed could be set to exceed £6million.

And unfortunately for Clement, this is a deal which Rangers would have struggled to match.

Rangers must go back to the drawing board after missing out on Nathaniel Adjei
With Anderlecht interested in the young centre-back, the Gers would have known they had their work cut out for them.

While this is a little setback, Clement should not be discouraged. There are still plenty of players available on the market, and more importantly, Rangers have plenty of time to assemble a group capable of competing with Celtic next season.
