Connor Barron ‘can do better’ than Rangers as midfielder fired Aberdeen transfer exit warning

Connor Barron can do better than a move to Rangers and should look to head out to Italy, says Aberdeen legend Joe Harper. Gers are one of a host of clubs looking at the midfielder, 21, available after leaving the Dons at the end of his contract. It wouldn’t quite be free however with his old club due a compensation fee – around £500,00 for anyone outside Scotland but the Ibrox men would have to agree a fee or allow it to go to a tribunal.

There are some clubs in England considering a swoop but also in Italy, with Hellas Verona and Bologna the two named. Both have a rack record of signing from Scotland with the latter propelling the career of another former Dons midfielder in Lewis Ferguson, who was on the switch of an even bigger move before disaster struck with injury.

Harper would love to see Barron make a similar move in order to boost his career. He believes that would be a better option than heading to Pittodrie.

Speaking to the Press and Journal, he stated: “Aberdeen midfielder Connor Barron has the quality to land a greater move than Rangers. Barron is an exceptional talent, but the 21-year-old appears poised to leave Pittodrie this summer.

Barron’s Dons contract expires at the end of this month. Aberdeen offered him a new contract, but he has yet to sign it, and it appears that he will be moving on. Rangers are interested in Barron but there is also strong interest from clubs in Italy. “A move to Bologna accelerated the career of Lewis Ferguson following his £3million deal to the Serie A team in summer 2022.

Ferguson was awarded top midfielder of the season in the Italian top flight for 2023-24 which is a remarkable performance. Ylber Ramadani has also thrived at Serie A Lecce since his £1.3 million move from Aberdeen last summer. “Barron could do the same because he has the potential to make an impact in Italy.
