Wolves is requesting £45 million for 27-year-old Lopetegui, who would be happy at West Ham.

The time till West Ham’s Julen Lopetegui era begins in earnest is not too far off. After leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers, the Spaniard has not been seen in the league.

It is thought that this is because the promises made when he was hired turned out to be nothing more than hollow words.

The supporters of the East Londoners, who had their three-season run in Europe end with a thrilling victory against Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final, both relished and endured their time under David Moyes.

The obvious success was contrasting sharply with a footballing approach that was obviously unpopular with the club’s devoted fan base.

Even though the “West Ham way” may no longer be relevant, the Irons were consistently praised for their offensive and expansive style of play—exactly the opposite of what Moyes seemed to want from his staff most of the time.

Lopetegui desires to see Max Kilman again at West Ham. To begin with, Lopetegui’s first priority will be to go back to that thrilling blend, and in order to do so, he will need everyone to support his method of operation.

Max Kilman, a player the Spaniard appointed captain while he was a member of Wolves, is one player who accomplished just that.

The Daily Mail claims that Lopetegui is eager to resume their working relationship, but West Ham’s hopes of pursuing this will probably be dashed by the Midlands-based team’s insistence on seeking £45 million for the 27-year-old’s services.

The Hammers management must also be aware that if Lopetegui feels they are not keeping their end of the contract, he will treat them the same way he treated Wolves. In the current transfer market, £45 million is not at the high end of transfer fees.
