Michael Owen discusses the main worry that new Liverpool manager Arne Slot has.

The Dutchman has replaced Jurgen Klopp as manager.

After taking over for Jurgen Klopp at Anfield this summer, Arne Slot will be coming to the team with a lot of goals in mind.

Liverpool’s attempt to win the championship in the final weeks of the season ended in third position, and now it is up to Slot to keep the Mersysiders in the running for the championship.

He must, however, also handle the club’s core players’ futures, since there is conjecture around Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk’s transfer and contract circumstances.

Thanks to AceOdds, Michael Owen was able to speak exclusively to DAZN. He expressed his worry about the biggest players from his previous club and expressed fear that they would be difficult to replace. “I’m concerned about those truly special players who make the largest of differences in games, because I wonder who will step in for Mo Salah when the time comes. Who will take over for Virgil Van Dijk? Another is Alisson.

There are certain players who are simply outstanding, elite players who rank among the best in the world in their position.

And to be completely honest, if any other player—you could mention Trent Alexander-Arnold as an example of someone who is somewhat similar to you—left Liverpool, you would probably think, “Well, okay, that’s a little sad, but you can definitely replace them.” There is no doubt that you can find another Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Curtis Jones, or whomever. Those are the players you can find.

“They are incredibly talented players. They are located. There is no Virgil van Dijk replacement.

Mo Salah is unreplaceable. It’s just not possible. And it is currently Liverpool’s greatest obstacle.

The goal is to locate the next 20–22 year old who can make a huge impact, stick with the squad for an additional ten years, and become the cornerstone of the group. That, then, is my main concern.

Not for the immediate future, but in two or three years, I believe Liverpool will be extremely similar to how they were before they acquired Alisson and Van Dijk.

These are the kind of players we need. They simply went all out and spent a lot of money to accomplish it. In the next year or two, I believe that will occur once more.”
