Rangers suffer a transfer blow from Damien Garcia as Penarol star makes a significant career decision.

Garcia had been linked with an Ibrox switch after contract talks stalled but he’s set to put pen to paper and remain in Uruguay.

Damian Garcia, a midfielder for Penarol who is expected to ink a new deal, will not be joining Rangers.

In an effort to reorganize his midfield, Philippe Clement has linked the 20-year-old with a move to Ibrox.

Ryan Jack and John Lundstram both departed Ibrox on a free transfer, and even though Mohamed Diomande signed a long-term contract, the Belgian is still looking to add more players to the Light Blues’ engine room.

Garcia, whose contract was about to expire, was viewed as a promising new addition that the Gers could nurture and potentially turn a profit on in the future. However, Garcia was always eager to stay with the Uruguayan powerhouses.

As a result, after initial negotiations broke down, Garcia is now expected to sign an agreement through December 2026, receiving a hefty pay increase and ending Rangers’ interest for the time being, according to DS Sports.

Now, the Scottish League Cup champions will focus on Connor Barron.

The former Aberdeen player is likely to go through a medical with the Ibrox club after leaving Pittodrie this summer when his contract expired.
