Fabio Silva could have joined Celtic on loan in January – but he chose Rangers.
It’s rumored that Brendan Rodgers wants the Portugal Under-21 international to bolster his team in the winter transfer window. In the end, the £35 million player decided to sign with Rangers.
In 33 games for Philippe Clement, he netted six goals. According to Jorge Silva, in January he was able to sign with either of Glasgow’s two major teams.
He also criticized his son’s detractors while talking about how things ended up at the Rangers. “In the beginning, Fabio had the option to choose other clubs, even in Scotland,” he stated to the Sunday Mail.
Might he have visited Celtic? He may have gone there, indeed. “A lot of people advised him to go there since their style of play might be more similar to Fabio’s.” But he went with Rangers.
People have asked us about Fabio’s religion because he is a Catholic, but he doesn’t always act like one. Still, as his father, he confided in me that all he wanted was to be a Rangers player. He adored the supporters and the team.
He simply doesn’t get that everyone turned against the boy after just one game—the Old Firm derby. He enjoyed his stint with the Rangers.
Every employee there assisted him. “But many told me to tell him not to dive when they realized I was his father at the recent cup final. I realize that’s simply football and passion, but I don’t get it.
I don’t understand why, following the Celtic game, certain Rangers supporters and former players criticized him.
Although it was a crucial game, Rangers did little to help Fabio win the penalty. “He included them in the game, but everyone turned against him thereafter. It’s beyond me to understand.
Fabio usually went one-on-one with Alistair Johnston whenever he had the ball, creating tense situations.
He gave the team another goal, but it was offside. However, his fans later appeared to turn against him.
