Douglas Luiz, a midfielder for Aston Villa, is available for Arsenal to sign, but they will need to spend £50 million.

According to the Daily Mirror, Arsenal has been informed that it could cost up to £50 million to sign Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz this summer.

The Brazilian international is a longtime favorite of the Gunners, who saw their £25 million offer for him turned down during the summer transfer window of 2022.

But now that Luiz is available, Villa might have to cash in on him in the next few days in an attempt to keep inside the Premier League’s profit and sustainability guidelines.

Arsenal might benefit from the situation, but the Midlands club will need to offload players by the June 30 deadline if they want to avoid facing the same punishment as teams like Nottingham Forest and Everton.

The Gunners want to strengthen their midfield options in preparation for another title challenge, since Thomas Partey’s future is uncertain.

They just gave Italy international Jorginho a new contract, but adding Luiz will greatly strengthen their squad and increase their prospects of challenging hard for the Premier League title and other important titles the next year.

The 26-year-old’s attributes are valued by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, and sports director Edu may be able to persuade the former Manchester City player to join the North London team by using his connections in Brazil.

In 53 games across all competitions in 2023–24, he recorded ten goals and ten assists. If Arsenal wants to improve in the Premier League the next season, they need a player of his caliber and reliability who can make an impact in the closing third of the game.

It is unclear, though, if they would be prepared to spend £50 million on a midfield player because Arteta also wants to bolster his team in other areas.

Luiz is being pursued by a number of clubs in addition to them; Serie A teams Juventus and AC Milan are also interested in signing him, and more teams may become interested if they witness Villa’s desperation to part with one of their most valuable assets.
