Wolves make an offer to sign Pedro Neto 2.0 following interest in January.

Wolves are keeping a close watch on a prodigious winger who shone last season

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ 2023–24 campaign came to a disappointing end as they dropped five of their final six Premier League games.

In spite of an otherwise respectable season, Gary O’Neil will be looking to add a few elite players this summer in order to advance his squad. Wolves forward information Rodrigo Gomes is apparently the subject of a bidding war between Wolves and Atletico Madrid, according to Record, via Sport Witness. The Spanish team is reportedly offering around €15 million (£13 million) for the talented winger.

According to the source, the Old Gold were also interested in the Portuguese jewel, who spent the 2023–24 season on loan at Estoril from SC Braga. The Premier League team reportedly kept tabs on the player’s improvement during the campaign.

The possibility to play in one of the top leagues in Europe may be enough to lure O’Neil away from Madrid, who are clearly the favorites to sign him during the transfer season. The rumor suggests that there may be a “tug of war” between the rival suitors. People will draw parallels between him and Pedro Neto should he relocate to Molineux. Could the 20-year-old be a different iteration of the present Wolves treasure?

Pedro Neto 2.0 might be Rodrigo Gomes. Due to a variety of injuries sustained during the previous two seasons, Neto has missed 46 games overall since the summer of 2022. The 23-year-old showed off his offensive skills last season while he was healthy, making 24 appearances, garnering 11 assists, and scoring three goals.

It was no coincidence that their form suffered during the final few weeks of the season as Neto was injured.

Ben Mattinson, a statistical analyst, stated that Gomes had been “on fire” in the 2023–2024 season and that the “versatile” prospect had identified himself as one to “watch out for”. In fact, Gomes scored nine goals and dished out eight assists in 36 games across all competitions, displaying parallels to Neto in that they both have excellent goal-scoring abilities and create plenty of opportunities for their teammates.

The Braga sensation led his teammates in goals and assists (14) in the top flight. He also led in shots per game (1.7), big chance creation (seven), and important passes per game (1.2), demonstrating that he is more than just a threat in front of goal. These figures also suggest that the young player might be primed to contribute in the Premier League. Before joining the Old Gold in 2019, Neto had only played eight senior matches, and so far, things have gone really nicely for him.

O’Neil will need to shell out a lot of money to entice Gomes to the Midlands because he is under contract at Braga until June 2026. Undoubtedly, adding Gomes would be well worth the money, even if he had to sell a few players this summer to make the transfer possible.

The young player will only get better over the next years, so playing against some of the world’s top defenders at Wolves would be the ideal environment for him to grow.
