Leeds United ‘eye’ the title-winning defender as Liverpool stun the world. Choosing Crysencio Summerville

Leeds United has one week left until the summer transfer market opens to bolster their squad in preparation for another demanding and drawn-out Championship promotion run.

Dan James’ play-off final loss to Southampton last month has left him with physical scars that are starting to heal.

At least now, fans can look forward to another season in which the team will compete for the championship rather than attempting to avoid Premier League relegation.

Though there will undoubtedly be difficult times this summer, chairman Paraag Marathe has already issued a warning, stating that revenues will probably decline as long as Leeds continues to adhere to the profitability and sustainability regulations (PSR).

As Elland Road’s management prepare for yet another successful season, there will be a lot of ins and outs. The YEP has compiled some of the most recent tales pertaining to the team.

Eric Smith, a defender for St. Pauli, is rumored to be interested in two Championship clubs, including Leeds.

According to Swedish publication Aftonbladet, Smith is being considered by Daniel Farke’s team as well as West Bromwich Albion, who are expected to be their Championship promotion rivals.

Smith played 26 games this season as St. Pauli won the 2. Bundesliga title and made their first-ever return to the German top division in 22 years. Smith was a mainstay for the team.

The 27-year-old Swedish player is a flexible defensive option who can play in defensive midfield or on either side of the center-back tandem.

Since Liam Cooper now appears ready to depart as a free agency when his contract expires, Leeds will likely need defensive reinforcements this summer.

Joe Rodon is expected to return to parent club Tottenham, who will only look to sell if they can receive at least £15 million.

The only other viable option, except Pascal Struijk, who is also at ease dropping in, is Charlie Cresswell, who may choose to move on in quest of more regular football.
