Controversial Rangers star wants Ibrox exit as Philippe Clement readies transfer overhaul

Rangers manager Philippe Clement is preparing for a massive Ibrox makeover this summer. With five names already leaving for nothing, there’s been a lot of debate regarding the club’s incomings and outgoings.

While the Rangers’ starting lineup for the first game of the season is unknown, one thing is definite. There is no room for hangers-on, and anyone who is not entirely dedicated to the Rangers cause must be booted out as the Philippe Clement revolution takes off. With that in mind, we’re hearing that one important Ibrox player, who has had his share of trouble this season, is looking for a way out.

Cantwell Rangers future up in the air

Todd Cantwell is a name which certainly polarises Rangers supporters.

On his day, the 26-year-old Englishman is as good as anyone currently plying their trade in Scotland.

Rangers signed the offensive midfielder from Norwich City 18 months ago, and he has shown to be a match winner. But there’s a reason Todd Cantwell, who famously came close to joining Bayern Munich, went from being a Premier League wonderkid to having his career hang in the balance in Scotland. The season that just ended was also frustrating. Philippe Clement memorably hooked Todd Cantwell during the first half of a Europa League match against Aris Limassol.

The Belgian was also spotted pulling the midfielder away from the refereeing team at the end of the Scottish Cup Final defeat to Celtic.

Rangers fans too have been left frustrated with Cantwell’s use of social media at times this season and it all points to a player lacking focus at a crucial time in Ibrox history.

Whilst Todd Cantwell remains a fan favourite and someone Rangers fans generally believe in, it now appears that the player is considering an exit from Glasgow.

Ex-Norwich star agitating for Ibrox exit

According to information from HITC journalist Graeme Bailey Todd Cantwell looks to be agitating for a move away from Rangers.

The former Sky Sports and Mirror writer has spoken exclusively to Rangers News about the Cantwell transfer rumours. It is reported that after 18 months at the club, the ex-Canaries star is ready to leave Ibrox, and the scenario will undoubtedly elicit varied reactions from fans. While we’ve seen glimpses of Todd Cantwell at his best, it’s fair to say the club isn’t getting the most out of the midfielder for various reasons. It has been suggested that Rangers manager Philippe Clement does not best use Todd Cantwell’s talents.

Other Rangers fans have been scathing of the midfielder’s alleged attitude problems. Whatever the case, Todd Cantwell might be on the move this summer, and if the matter escalates further, Rangers will face a new transfer hurdle. Cantwell plays an important part in the squad, and the Gers would need to find a good substitute. The former England youth international joined Rangers for £1.5 million in January 2023, under Michael Beale’s guidance. Rangers might profit from signing the midfielder on a ‘long term’ contract, but it is uncertain how far down the road any exit negotiations may be.
