According to Chris Jack, Philippe Clement is unhappy with the situation at Rangers, which will result in the team losing Robby McCrorie. Speaking on the Rangers Review Morning Briefing on June 5, the journalist revealed that the goalie is now expected to leave after making a transfer request in January and refusing a new contract offer subsequently.
The 26-year-old has a year left on his present contract, and the Light Blues have put a £500,000 price tag on him, with Jack speculating that a “hefty” sell-on clause will be included, but the manager is dissatisfied that another player is about to leave once his contract runs out.
John Lundstram, Ryan Jack, Kemar Roofe, and Borna Barisic will all leave on free transfers this summer as their contracts expire, following in the footsteps of Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos, Scott Arfield, and Filip Helander a year ago. Jack stated of McCrorie’s expected departure (5m 30s): “He’s in the final year of his contract. The manager has addressed the situation of the last couple of weeks. He is unhappy, to put it lightly, that so many people have been allowed to enter the final stage of their deal.
Robby McCrorie set for cut-price Rangers exit
With the exception of Roofe and potentially Jack, whose repeated injury issues arguably made the expiry of their contracts a relief, the number of players who have left for nothing in the past two summers is a concern.
Helander is another Ibrox player whose career was derailed by injury, and Jack has previously been linked with a return on a pay-per-play basis [David Tanner, 1 June]. T. However, Clement has been loud in his desire to keep Lundstram, having previously stated that he would prefer Barisic to stay [Football Scotland, 3 November], with the duo due to reconvene in Turkey, and plainly does not want to lose McCrorie if a new contract is offered. Rangers could have made significant money for all three, plus Morelos and Kent, with better transfer market management, so it is no surprise that the manager isn’t impressed when he is now seeking to restock the team with budget limits.
