One of Celtic’s double-winning heroes was excited to visit the New York Celtic Supporters Club on Friday for a holiday visit and recreate the Bhoys experience this season.
Paulo Bernardo went off to the United States to see the sights of New York City after spending the week training with fellow members of the Portuguese national team.
During his loan from Benfica, the midfield player made 33 appearances for the team, and there are growing rumors that Celtic is hoping to sign the gifted player to a long-term contract.
With a twisting shot that forced Jack Butland to veer the ball into the path of goal scorer Adam Idah, Bernardo ended the match against Rangers with a vital contribution.
That kind of influence strengthens the case that he ought to be included in the summer, and it appears Bernardo is eager to stay involved with the Bhoys.
The NYCSC said in a Facebook post that he had visited McHale’s Bar, the location of the Celtic club.
There’s much reason to believe Paulo Bernardo wants Celtic to stay. The visit coincides with news this morning from Portugal indicating that Bernardo intends to remain in Scotland for the 2024–2025 campaign.
According to the Portuguese publication Record, he is excited to play more regular first-team games next season and has liked his time in Glasgow and with the Bhoys. It might depend on the kind of price Benfica is willing to pay Celtic for the 22-year-old.
The Bhoys reportedly incorporated a buy clause worth about £6 million in the conditions of his loan, but they are currently trying to negotiate that out. That makes sense given that under Rodgers, he isn’t quite a reliable starter.
He has been utilized more as a rotational and squad member. It would be wise business to deliver him for a few million pounds, especially given he has room for improvement.
