The guy who gave an astounding £22 million boost is ready to leave Rangers

Rangers’ chief executive James Bisgrove has stated that he will leave Ibrox for a new business in the Middle East. Bisgrove joined the Ibrox giants as Head of Marketing and Commercial five years ago, and he will succeed managing director Stewart Robertson as CEO in 2023.

However, after just 13 months in the role, James Bisgrove has decided to take up a position in Saudi Arabia, apparently with recently promoted club Al Qadsiah [Scottish Daily Mail]. Rangers issued a statement on Friday, confirming the news and informed fans that John Bennett will serve as Executive Chairman in the meantime. The club stated, “Rangers can confirm Chief Executive Officer James Bisgrove will leave the club after accepting a new football role in the Middle East.”

The Rangers Board has put in place a temporary executive structure and will prioritize carrying out the summer transfer activity in conjunction with John Bennett, Philippe Clement, Nils Koppen, and the Football Board. “John Bennett will temporarily take on the position of Executive Chairman in order to provide continuity and support to the broader executive team as they concentrate on carrying out our summertime goals, both on and off the field.

The team consisting of current executives will be headed by the Executive Chairman. They are James Taylor, Chief Financial Officer; Nils Koppen, Director of Football Recruiting; Creag Robertson, Director of Football Operations; and Karim Virani, Chief Commercial Officer.

And he believes that had Bisgrove left Rangers last year as Head of Marketing and Commercial instead of taking up the role of CEO, his legacy would have been viewed much more favourably.

Williams commented: “To put it charitably, James Bisgrove has been a divisive figure as Rangers CEO.

“The debacle around the Sydney Super Cup was a marked low point. Legal issues with Sports Direct and Hummel pre-date his premiership meanwhile, but the communications in that department were lacking.

“However, his legacy would arguably have been very positive if not for his promotion from commercial director just under a year ago.

John Bennett’s perspective on the Bisgrove withdrawal As previously stated, John Bennett will assume the position of Executive Chairman subsequent to Bisgrove’s departure, ahead of what is anticipated to be a very hectic summer transfer window for the Rangers. And even if a sizable portion of the fan base holds a completely different opinion, he has also emphasized how important Bisgrove was to Rangers’ off-field development during the last few years. “I would like to thank James for the work he has done at the club over the last five years as Commercial and Marketing Director, and latterly, as our CEO,” Bennett said in a statement.

James led a considerable increase in our commercial revenues, and during the past year, he played a key role in the club’s off-field reorganization. “I fully expect the executive team that James helped form to continue its momentum now that it has firmly established itself. We hope James has great success in his new position.
