Switzerland faced with major decisions as Germany and Hungary fine-tuned ahead of Scotland’s Euro 2024 battles.
Next week, Scotland will face Gibraltar and Finland in their final Euro 2024 warm-up matches, while their fellow Group A opponents are also in action as they finalize their preparations for the tournament. Germany, who face Scotland in their first match on June 14, will host Ukraine on Monday night at the Max-Morlock-Stadion in Nuremberg. They will conclude with another home match on Friday, when Greece visits Borussia-Park in Monchengladbach. Germany won its two March friendlies against France and the Netherlands, and manager Julian Nagelsmann must determine which of his current 27-man team will be left out of the Euros. It appears to be between Alexander Nubel and Oliver Baumann, both goalkeepers.
Murat Yakin, Switzerland’s manager, has more decisions to make. Last month, the Swiss named a provisional 38-man team but cut it to 33 after removing Aurèle Amenda, Ulisses Garcia, Joël Monteiro, Bryan Okoh, and Bećir Omeragić. Two more culls are scheduled, the first occurring immediately following Tuesday night’s friendly against Estonia at the Swissporarena in Luzern. They will then host Austria at the Kybunpark in St Gallen on Saturday, June 8, in their final warm-up match before their Group A opener against Hungary. Scotland will meet the Swiss in Cologne on Wednesday, June 18.
Hungary manager Marco Rossi has already confirmed his 26-man Euros team, and the focus now is on getting his players healthy and ready for the tournament. They will play the Republic of Ireland in Dublin on Tuesday night before hosting Israel in a friendly at Debrecen’s Nagyerdei Stadion. On Sunday, June 23, Scotland’s final Group A opponent will be the in-form Hungarians, who have not lost since September 2022.
