Rangers’ “absolute nonsense” penalty denial in the Celtics defeat was widely criticized.

After a VAR review disallowed a goal by Abdallah Sima, Derek Ferguson called the Scottish Cup final officiating between Rangers and Celtic “absolute nonsense”.

Greg Taylor appeared to block the Belgian player first, but Nico Raskin was determined to have fouled Joe Hart before the finish by referee Nick Walsh and VAR John Beaton.

Following the late 1-0 loss at Hampden, Ally McCoist referred to the judgment as “scandalous” on talkSPORT (May 28, 7.05am), and Ferguson agrees, stating that Rangers ought to have received a penalty if the play was going to be reviewed.

He remarked, “I tend to agree with his assertion; obviously, he’s talking about the goal that was disallowed,” in an interview with Ibrox News exclusively. “The boy Taylor clearly grabs Raskin before the push on Joe Hart if you’re going to go to VAR and pinpoint pushes, grabs, and holding.”

Consequently, if you’re analyzing that from a VAR perspective, Raskin was fouled before he fouled Joe Hart.

Raskin should have been given a penalty for his foul, but since you’re using VAR instead of awarding the goal, it doesn’t quite work out. Yet once more, VAR is involved.

I’m not sure if you support or oppose it, but it’s a mess, and I generally agree with Ally McCoist.

Not that Raskin didn’t foul Joe Hart; there was a push and two hands, so there was definitely a foul committed before he fouled. It is considered a foul when someone wraps both of their arms around you and holds you back.

So there you go, VAR, the referee, the VAR team, absolute nonsense.”

Nico Raskin unfairly penalised in Rangers defeat?

Few Old Firm derbies go by without an officiating dispute of some kind, and over the past few seasons, it has become increasingly common for Light Blues goals to be disallowed under questionable circumstances.

Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe have both been denied by the Parkhead officials.

Rangers’ terrible recent record might have been different if key decisions had gone the other way. Overall, Rangers hasn’t performed well in its matches with their Glasgow rivals.

since it stands, Philippe Clement will have pressure to deliver early in the upcoming campaign, since he has now behind Michael Beale and Giovanni van Bronckhorst in their struggles to secure results against Celtic.
