Insider Reveals What He’s Hearing About Dak Prescott’s Contract Extension
Despite their enormous talent, the Dallas Cowboys are currently under a shadow of uncertainty due to contract difficulties. The most significant is that quarterback Dak Prescott is entering the final year of his contract, and if he does not obtain an extension shortly, he will be a free agency next offseason.
According to reports, the two sides aren’t close to an extension, but Jeremy Fowler claimed on ESPN’s “NFL Live” that the Cowboys are “all-in” on Prescott and signaled that a deal will eventually get done.
Prescott had one of his best regular seasons ever in 2023, leading the NFL with 36 throwing touchdowns and briefly emerging as a front-runner for MVP. He made the Pro Bowl for the third time, and he guided Dallas to 12 regular-season wins for the third consecutive year.
But, as usual, Dallas was eliminated early in the playoffs, this time in the Wild Card round by an upstart Green Bay Packers club, and it wasn’t even close. Prescott has a history of underperforming in the playoffs, leading some to assume that Jerry Jones is concerned whether he wants his club to continue riding the Prescott train beyond the 2017 season. The Cowboys must also soon extend contracts to wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and pass rusher Micah Parsons, both of whom are among the greatest players in football at their positions. Will Jones be able to handle the NFL’s harsh pay cap and maintain all three?
