Dallas Mavericks headed to NBA Finals, another DFW sports club succeeding alongside the Dallas Cowboys.

Thursday night, the Mavericks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves, winning the Western Conference Finals. On the other hand, the Boston Celtics swept the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals, and we now have a week until the championship series begins. Ah well. But we’re here today to talk about the Mavs’ side of things and how they got to the final match in their particular sport.

The Mavericks are actually the second major sports club from DFW to do this in the previous 365 days, following the Texas Rangers, who not only reached but won the World Series last autumn. It was their first championship in franchise history.

The Mavericks have a 13-year-old title, but they certainly want to add to it. As the saying goes, you can only win trophies if you put yourself in a constant position to do so, and while the Mavericks made it to the WCF two years ago, this is their first trip back to the Finals since that legendary 2011 season.

Elsewhere in DFW, the Dallas Stars are two wins away from reaching the Stanley Cup Final. Four years ago, the Stars advanced to the final stage, but they were unable to win eternal glory. They are currently deadlocked at two games apiece with the Edmonton Oilers, so things are a little anxious right now, but if they win the series, three of the four DFW clubs who play major sports will have reached the ultimate round of their respective sport since the Rangers did last autumn. There is only one outlier: the Dallas Cowboys.

As you can see the Stars are at the moment still in their own semifinal matchup. But at the very least they have reached the penultimate stage. And more than anything what is visible is how much the Cowboys are trailing their neighboring teams in terms of opportunities for parades in the metroplex.

It’s disheartening that the Cowboys can’t even make it to the NFC Championship Game, but witnessing their peers do it with different versions of teams from very different eras reveals that it’s not as impossible as the Cowboys make it appear. It is, of course, quite tough to achieve success in any sport, but being the one who manages to stand out in this crucial way is quite a look for Jerry Jones’ organization.
To be clear, this is an excellent time for individuals that follow and support all DFW teams. The Rangers accomplished it, and the Mavericks may soon follow suit, with the Stars also having an opportunity. Sports enthusiasts aspire to this kind of utopia.
