Dallas Cowboys RB Trying Out A New Position During OTAs
The Dallas Cowboys could add a new wide receiver for the 2024 season. The Cowboys are experimenting with their roster for the 2024 season. They are considering having a second-year running back try out for the slot position.
Deuce Vaughn, a former Kansas State standout, did not have a significant effect as running back in his rookie season. During the 2023 season, the speed back gained 40 yards on 23 carries. He also contributed 40 receiving yards with seven catches.
Simply put, Vaughn showed last season that he was better suited as a pass catcher than a running back. The Cowboys already have a running back committee that will divide carries between Ezekiel Elliott, Royce Freeman, and Rico Dowdle.
According to the Cowboys website, the team is considering trying Vaughn in new spots during OTAs. He worked out as a wide receiver. Ezoic Deuce Vaughn played in a variety of positions on Thursday, including a substantial amount of time in the slot as a receiving option in addition to his running back reps. In the return game, he remains the second option after KaVontae Turpin, with Jalen Cropper and Juanyeh Thomas also working with returns.
Vaughn’s play in the slot might cause problems for opponents. Due to the new kickoff rules, the Cowboys may benefit from the 2023 sixth-round pick’s speed as a kick returner.
While Vaughn wasn’t much of an asset to the Cowboys last season, the team is looking for a position where he can thrive in 2024.
