After being compared to Ashley Cole, Wolves now want opponent Rayan Ait-Nouri, a “fantastic” left back.

Wolves are apparently interested in signing Rayan Ait-Nouri, a left-back who was previously compared to Chelsea great Ashley Cole, as a rival.

Gary O’Neill guided the Old Gold to a decent 14th-place Premier League finish in his debut season in command of Wolves.

Even though the Wanderers toyed with the notion of playing in Europe early on, from March onwards they collapsed under O’Neil’s leadership due to a severely injured roster.

It has only made it more important for them to bolster several squad positions this summer in order to continue developing as a team.

The 41-year-old has expressed frustration over his lack of options when it comes to forwards, as reports have connected Eddie Nketiah of Arsenal to Wolves.

O’Neil wants to increase competition for wing-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, so he has other strikers on his list of priorities. Wolves are currently interested in Ryan Sessegnon.

Wolves, Crystal Palace, and recently promoted Ipswich Town have reportedly expressed a “level of interest” in Tottenham wing-back Ryan Sessegnon, according to GIVEMESPORT.

Many will recall Sessegnon’s explosive left-winger debut at Fulham, when he made history in October 2018 by being the first player born in the 2000s to score a goal in the Premier League.

The world was the Englishman’s oyster at this moment, but after almost six years, his stock has drastically decreased.

The 24-year-old winger, who was acquired by Tottenham for a reported £25 million in the summer of 2019, has only made 57 appearances for the team.

He has played in the most league games (17) in the 2022–2023 season, mostly off the bench. Sessegnon, a North London native, has struggled with injuries; he made his club debut in January 2023.

Additionally, it looks like he could go for nothing because his contract expires this summer, and Wolves might take a chance on him to challenge Ait-Nouri.

At Wolves, Ryan Sessegnon might be able to restart his career. Under O’Neil, the Algerian has solidified his position as a left wing-back, but Sessegnon might be able to restart his career at Molineux.

It’s clear from his experience in Wolverhampton that O’Neil has excellent man-management abilities.

Many gifted people who had fallen on hard times, like Nelson Semedo, Hwang Hee-Chan, and Matheus Cunha, have found success under him.

The Englishman might do similar miracles and possibly guide Sessegnon towards his potential by signing him on a free transfer.

During his tenure as Tottenham’s manager, Jose Mourinho was a huge supporter of the former Fulham player, calling the attacking wing-back “fantastic” and drawing comparisons between him and Ashley Cole.

The legendary Portuguese player stated in 2019: “I believe Ryan can play as a left-back.” Ashley Cole was undoubtedly the best left-back of the past ten years, despite coming from two rival teams.

However, Ryan and Ashley share a lot of similarities, and he can develop his defense skills. “I believe he has the potential to play left back in the future, but not at this time.”

His ability to play as a left-back, using his lightning-fast speed and amazing strength to get up and down the wing, was first noticed by Mourinho.

O’Neil’s wing-back system at Molineux may allow Sessegnon to resurrect his career and present an alternative to Ait-Nouri.
