Rangers player faces trial for hazardous driving in Glasgow.
Rabbi Matondo, a Rangers winger, will stand trial on charges of hazardous driving. The 23-year-old allegedly committed the crime on Glasgow’s M8 highway on August 1, 2023. Court papers say that the Welsh international was driving an Audi Q8 sports car at the time. According to the accusation, Matondo exceeded the posted speed restrictions. It is claimed that he drove at excessive speeds for the road and traffic conditions, as well as failing to exercise adequate discipline.
According to the charges, Matondo consistently failed to maintain an acceptable stopping distance behind preceding motor vehicles. He is also accused of overtaking a car in the inside lane and driving in the path of a car ahead. Matondo is then accused of forcing the drivers of preceding vehicles to change lanes. Finally, he is accused of forceful braking, running a red light, failing to follow road markings, driving through a roundabout, and accelerating harshly. Matondo, of the city’s Woodlands, pleaded not guilty in Glasgow Sheriff Court today via letter. A trial has been scheduled for September this year.
A vehicle fire has disrupted traffic on a popular highway this morning. Around 11.33 a.m., Traffic Scotland took to X to inform that emergency services were on the M8 owing to a vehicle fire near junctions 18, Charing Cross, and Kelvingrove. Westbound at the junction is now blocked, and traffic is slowing on the approach.
It is uncertain what triggered the fire. A representative for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service stated, “We were informed at 11.18am on Wednesday, May 29, to a car fire on the M8 westbound near junction 18. “Operations Control dispatched two appliances to the scene, and workers doused the fire. “There were no casualties and crews left the scene after ensuring the area was safe.”
