Brendan Rodgers, a rival and multiple winner, will strengthen Celtic even more in his second season back in Scotland, Alistair Johnston has warned.
The Parkhead team put on a show and won both the Scottish Cup and the Premiership, and now the star player for the Hoops is enjoying an incredible season finale.
However, Johnston is certain that the team will achieve much more in the upcoming season now that the manager is back at work.
The Canadian player saw the team was improving after some early setbacks in his debut season when he moved to Glasgow in the middle of Ange Postecoglou’s second campaign.
Johnston is confident that Rodgers will experience the same success because the Irishman overcame several obstacles upon returning to the team and then spectacularly dashed across the finish line.
“He is a serial winner,” the 25-year-old remarked. I have never witnessed anything like how he manages his players or the press. He’s quite affable.
He genuinely understands it. I believe he truly gets what it takes to be a Celtic manager, and I have had a great time working with him.
I’ve been fortunate to be here. I’ve had Ange and, of course, Brendan, and each of them has been very unique in their own right.
“You witnessed that during Ange’s first season. It was a little hit-and-miss the first year, but by the second year it was taking off. That seems to be kind of the plan for us too, in my opinion.
Johnston acknowledged that the season wasn’t without its challenges, but the team is capable of winning, and exciting days lie ahead both in the revamped Champions League and domestically. “Was it an interesting season?” he asked.
Without a doubt. It’s not, by any means, linear. It’s fluctuated a little. You could say injuries, runs of form, and runs out of form.
However, in the end, we found ourselves in the final few months of the season, still vying for two trophies, and the decision rested with us.
With this football team, that is something that makes us dangerous anytime we are alive and well throughout a match.
We have experience; you are never truly out of it, given the amount of awards that players like Cal, Jamesy, and Joe have won.
It goes without saying that there is a little period of adjustment and that it takes time when you have a new management.
Needless to say, injuries and such things didn’t help. However, we are rather enthusiastic about our group and the direction we may take this.
It’s also intriguing because it will likely come down to a really good preseason leading into a really good Champions League campaign under the new structure. We are eager for you to press forward on all fronts, of course.
