Following his double, a Celtic star is called up to the World Cup qualifying squad.

The Celtic supporters’ whole focus will now be on watching their idols continue their story with their national teams this summer, as the close season is well underway. In just over two weeks, the European Championship 2024 will begin in Germany.

Fans of the Celtics may anticipate witnessing Callum McGregor and Matt O’Riley represent Scotland and Denmark, with Greg Taylor, Anthony Ralston, and James Forrest perhaps competing as well.

In addition, Celtic supporters may get to see Adam Idah and Liam Scales in addition to Odin Thiago Holm, Gustaf Lagerbielke, and Paulo Bernardo in international friendlies against the Republic of Ireland, Norway, Sweden, and Portugal.

However, qualifying for the 2026 World Cup starts this summer for other national associations, and a Celtic icon has been called up to lead his nation’s effort to compete in the largest football championship in the world.

Luis Palma gets international call

Luis Palma joined Celtic last summer in a £3.5m deal from the Greek side Aris and made an almost instant impact at the start of his Hoops career.

In the earlier part of the season, Palma was among the top names on the roster, but his play has drastically declined since January.

In spite of this, Palma has been called up to the Honduran national team for their next World Cup qualifying matches, which are scheduled for June 7 and June 9, respectively, against Cuba and Bermuda.

Palma has made a significant overall impact to Celtic’s success this season with ten goals and ten assists for the season.

Palma had a brilliant first four months with the Hoops, highlighted by two goals in the Champions League group stages and significant goals against Motherwell and Kilmarnock in the opening half of the season.

But since January, Palma’s starts for Celtic have decreased along with his goals and assists, frustrating Celtic supporters with his “inconsistent” play.

Since scoring in the 3-0 away victory at Dundee on Boxing Day, Palma has only scored twice in the league (the winner coming on Trophy Day against St Mirren) and generated zero chances, but it appears that he has contributed enough to be considered for Reinaldo Rueda’s international roster.
