David Edgar is ‘annoyed’ with the latest Jose Cordoba transfer development at Rangers.

David Edgar has expressed his initial response to Rangers’ decision to cancel their summer transfer drive for Jose Cordoba. According to reports, the Light Blues’ interest in the Levksi Sofia defender has stopped, with Philippe Clement poised to turn his attention to other targets and Leon Balogun set to sign a new contract extension [Chris Jack, 29 May].

The Light Blues were expecting to seal a £2 million deal for the 22-year-old, and while Edgar says he didn’t know much about Cordoba, the latest update has left him “annoyed”. He wrote on X on Wednesday (29 May): “I hadn’t heard of him until two weeks ago, but now I’m annoyed. “The transfer window in a nutshell.”

Has Rangers transfer push for Jose Cordoba ended?
It is amazing how quickly you can get caught up in the fun of the transfer window, but no sooner had the Gers seemingly registered an interest in Cordoba, than the deal had already collapsed.

That certainly won’t be the last time this happens between now and the start of next season and while fans have every right to get excited by new links, not every player tipped to make the switch to Ibrox will be a new Gers player.

New defenders have to be a priority at Ibrox between now and the end of the summer. The backline has been far too easy to break down under Clement and with speculation continuing around Connor Goldson’s future, signings have to be made.

Cordoba would have been a great addition considering his profile as a naturally left-sided centre-back, but the Light Blues cannot afford to spend money on players who see a move to Scotland as a step toward the Premier League. Hopefully, Clement will have better luck with his other centre-back targets in the coming weeks and months, allowing Edgar to enjoy the excitement of the transfer market once more.
