Wayne Rooney says he wishes he had played for Celtic.

Wayne Rooney made a surprising comment about Celtic earlier today in a joke that will undoubtedly get fans excited.

The 38-year-old is well-known for being a fan of the Hoops even though he has never worn the recognizable green and white; yet, he did play in Glasgow’s east end while playing for Manchester United, and in 2014, he represented England against Scotland at Parkhead.

Following his playing retirement, Rooney managed Birmingham City, Derby County, and DC United before taking on his current position as manager of Plymouth Argyle this week.

In an interview with official channels prior to the Three Lions’ 3-1 victory against Scotland in 2014, Rooney expressed his love for Celtic. “My kids have Celtic kits, and I always look out for the scores,” the man [Celtic FC] said. “My family and I have always followed Celtic, since I was a boy anyway.”

Rooney’s identification with the Scottish Premiership champions is further demonstrated by another intriguing statement he made about the Bhoys in a recent interview.
