A petition opposing Wolverhampton Wanderers’ steep season ticket price rises has amassed more than 11,000 signatures.
Fans furious at the hike—which, in one instance, sees prices soar by 176%—organized the protest.
The organizers of the petition said that the rise had caused “shockwaves” among the fan base. “Commercial growth is vital for our club’s sustainability and competitiveness,” stated Jeff Shi, chairman.
According to “Dazzling Dave” of the Always Wolves fan site, the raises were “astronomical” and “shameful” on BBC Radio WM. “It’s one thing that’s united the fan base in horror and disgust,” he stated.
Together, the main fan bases and media outlets are pleading with Jeff and the Wolves to reverse this horrifying raise.
After a BBC fans’ survey on opinions regarding Premier League season ticket prices, the price increases were revealed.
While a comparable proportion thought the price increases were “good value” and over half thought they were fair, over 25% of supporters of the clubs that had made the announcement claimed they were unfair.
At the time of the pricing announcement last week, Mr. Shi stated, “We understand that price increases are unpopular, and we do listen to fan feedback, but our aim is to ensure our prices are neither significantly lower nor higher than our peers.”
I think our price represents a fair and appropriate balance based on our current situation, previous growth, and future objectives because our ticketing team has thoroughly investigated and compared Wolves with other clubs.”
