After missing out on international call-ups, Toti Gomes and Matheus Cunha have recently experienced disappointment; now, another Wolves player has failed to represent his nation.
Most places have now finished club football, and many players are currently leaving for vacations.
However, some people continue to play football because major international competitions are scheduled for the upcoming weeks.
Both the Copa America and Euro 2024 are rapidly approaching, and a number of players have already been called up by their countries, either for final teams that have been announced or for preliminary squads that will be reduced later.
The Wolves three of Pedro Neto, Nelson Semedo, and Jose Sa celebrated last week when they were all selected for Portugal’s Euro 2024 team.
Despite Roberto Martinez’s admiration for Toti Gomes, there was regrettably no room for him. As the sixth center-back option, Toti was unfortunate to be left out, according to Martinez.
Matheus Cunha, an attacker for Wolves, was not called up by Dorival Junior to the Brazil squad for the Copa America. It was unfortunate for them, and now another player from Wolves has not been chosen for his nation.
Wolves star Pablo Sarabia overlooked as provisional Spain squad is announced for Euro 2024
Pablo Sarabia, a forward for Wolves, was regrettably left off of the Spain roster when it was revealed on Monday morning.
Sarabia was picked up for Spain’s final team in March, and he played for 70 minutes in a 1-0 loss to Colombia before coming off the bench against Brazil.
The player earning £90,000 a week had hoped to play in the summer Euros.
The 32-year-old Wolves player, though, has gone unnoticed by manager Luis de la Fuente. Instead, he has chosen players like Nico Williams, Dani Olmo, Mikel Oyarzabal, Ferran Torres, Lamine Yamal, and Ayoze Perez.
Sarabia will now be deprived of the opportunity to increase his 29 caps, although it is a provisional team that will be shortened.
He probably won’t get the opportunity to participate in another international event because he is 32 years old.
At the next World Cup, he will be 34 years old, and if he is to be selected ahead of younger players, he must be playing at an extremely high level.
It is unfortunate for the player that Sarabia will be the one to narrowly lose out on representing his country ahead of a major event, like Toti and Cunha did.
With four goals and ten assists in 36 club appearances across all competitions, Sarabia contributed to Wolves’ successful season.
He has demonstrated his heritage in the past with a respectable international record of nine goals and three assists in 29 appearances.
In the end, de la Fuente evidently believes that taking Spain’s youthful, skilled strikers this summer would be more beneficial than playing the seasoned Wolves player.
In 2023–2024, Sarabia was one of the Premier League’s most inventive players. He had a very strong middle half of the season for Wanderers.
He may not have made the squad, though, as his play declined during the final few months of the season.
