Philippe Clement reveals immediate plan as Rangers boss sends social media to fans after Cup final defeat
Philippe Clement has told his Rangers players that he is “proud” of their efforts, despite his disappointment at not winning the Scottish Cup for the supporters, and has promised that he would be ready to go after a summer holiday with his family.
The Belgian manager missed out on a domestic double in his first season at Ibrox when Adam Idah pounced on a Jack Butland push out in the 90th minute, sending the green and white half of Hampden wide and allowing Brendan Rodgers to add the famous old trophy to his Scottish Premiership title in a double. It’s been 24 hours after that loss in Mount Florida, and the Ibrox manager has had some time to dwell on the result.
Rangers will have a busy summer with a number of players coming in and out. On the day of Celtic’s Scottish Cup defeat, Jefte was confirmed as the first summer recruit, while Mohamed Diomande was also signed on a permanent basis.
Liam Kelly has been extensively connected with a free transfer to Ibrox, with Record Sport reporting that Robby McCrorie is on Aberdeen’s wishlist this summer, with the current No. 2 hoping to play first-team football after returning to the back-up role.
John Lundstram, Borna Barisic, and Kemar Roofe are all anticipated to go on a free transfer, as are a number of periphery players and loanees. The Belgian will take a short break before returning to hard work to stamp his mark on his Rangers team and build a side capable of capturing the Premiership title from rivals Celtic and qualifying for the newly revamped Champions League next season, with two qualifiers needed to join the Hoops alongside Europe’s elite at the top table.
