Nigeria international Leon Balogun has stated that no decision has been made on his future with Rangers, with his current deal scheduled to expire at the end of this month.
The former Queens Park Rangers defender joined the Gers for the second time in his career last summer, following an injury crisis that shook their defense. He struggled to earn playing time at first, appearing in only one of the Scottish Premiership’s first ten games, but he eventually made the team at the start of November.
The 35-year-old played a significant role in the Glasgow-based side’s victory in the Scottish League Cup, playing for the entire duration of the final against Aberdeen and preserving a clean sheet.
He was dropped from the team in February and made only three appearances before appearing for Phillipe Clement’s side in their Scottish Cup final defeat to Celtic yesterday. Speaking about his future after the game, Balogun admitted that he is open to staying at Ibrox beyond this season.
“We’ll see, but first we have to deal with this defeat and try to relax a little,” Balogun told the Rangers Review, via Ibrox News. “Then we’ll see what the coming weeks bring. I stood here two years ago and expressed my passion for the club, and that hasn’t changed, so there is obviously a desire to stay.dson and Ben Davis.
