Kenny Miller has “no doubt” that Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland would receive interest

Kenny Miller has “no doubt” that Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland would receive interest from other clubs during the summer transfer season. Butland’s late blunder proved costly in Saturday’s (25 May) Scottish Cup final loss to Celtic at Hampden Park.

The Englishman, who came as a free agent last summer, has otherwise performed admirably in his first season at Ibrox. Miller believes that, similar to Celtic’s need to replace Joe Hart, the Gers may have a significant vacuum to fill in the coming months. “There’s no doubt that Jack Butland will have suitors,” he stated on BBC Sportscene [25 May, 39:37].

“It could be that both sides of the Old Firm are looking for a number one over the course of the summer.

“It’s such an important position. He’s been a class act since he came up here last summer.”

Rangers braced for Jack Butland transfer interest. Everyone linked with the Rangers will be hoping Butland stays. The keeper has made a few mistakes but has mostly been excellent. Bringing in the 31-year-old last summer was considered good business at the time, but no one expected him to be as consistent as he has been.

However, until the amount is substantial, it makes no sense to cash in for a significant profit. After all, finding a successor would undoubtedly cost the club millions. Philippe Clement has enough on his plate without having to compete for a new number one. Hopefully no bids will be made, and if they are, they must be rejected unless the club’s own worth is exceeded.
