Rangers hold only 80% of Jefte in a unique transfer twist from Brazil.

According to Vene Casagrande, Rangers only hold 80% of Jefte after his transfer from Fluminense to Ibrox was confirmed. Casagrande, an SBT Rio journalist, confirmed the defender’s move to Ibrox, which is claimed to have cost £685,000.

However, Casagrande said that while Philippe Clement’s team only paid for 80% of the players’ rights, this hasn’t prevented the deal from being completed thus early in the summer transfer window. Rangers meet Celtic in the Scottish Cup penultimate on May 25, their penultimate match of the season, and Jefte is said to be in the stands at Hampden Park to cheer on his new colleagues. The signing of Jefte marks the start of Rangers’ summer roster revamp. Rangers may only own 80% of their new left-back Jefte, but his signing marks the beginning of a summer of upheaval at Ibrox.

There are numerous questions for the Belgian to answer regarding his summer recruitment, as players out of contract leave, current loanees return to their parent clubs, and others currently on loan return – some of whom have been in exceptional form – to Ibrox with a point to prove. From front to back, there will be lots of new faces this summer, and the left side of the defence could already be set if they can complete a move for centre-back Jose Cordoba.

Jefte appears to be the first of many signings for Rangers in the coming weeks, and with Clement finally able to properly stamp his authority on the group, Ibrox fans should expect their new Brazilian prodigy to contribute far more than 80 percent.
