Wolves could cash in this summer, as they may make the most of some departing stars.
Wolverhampton Wanderers have handily won the Premier League for seven years running, and they have high hopes for the European spots.
Although they have been there before, Gary O’Neil’s reorganization is expected, and several players may leave this summer in order to finance the team’s attack on the top half of the standings the following season.
It looks like a lot of players could depart this summer as the Old Gold look to adjust shaky contracts, handle rumored moves, and reinvest on behalf of their young manager; the ultimate goal being to improve upon this season’s 13th-place finish. The rumor mill is already in full swing.
The prospective departers will be divided into three categories in this article: “chance of leaving,” “likely to leave,” and “almost certain to leave.” Steve Madeley, the West Midlands correspondent for The Athletic, and the most recent reports from the national press are among the sources.
Chance of Leaving
Jose Sa, Nelson Semedo, Matheus Cunha, Dexter Lembikisa, Ki-Jana Hoever
O’Neil and executive chairman Jeff Shi recently spoke about the club’s plans for the summer transfer window, as Madeley reported.
Despite denying any pressure to offload important players, the head coach acknowledged that certain sales must happen to make room for new players.
Jose Sa, who is currently the starting goalie, could be the first to depart.
A number of Saudi Arabian clubs have previously expressed interest in the 31-year-old; in November of last year, sources suggested that he might have been acquired for £40 million.
But according to Madeley, Sa’s signing of a four-year contract in September 2023 represents a “clear show of support,” and the former Olympiakos player may stay with the team as the team’s top player.
Nelson Semedo, a Portuguese right-back, has been among Wolves’ top players this season, but he might not be here when the new season begins.
With one year remaining on his present contract, Semedo will either need to sign a new agreement or be sold. Following Sunday’s 2-0 loss at Anfield, O’Neil made remarks that seemed to imply an extension. He declared:
Hearts’ Dexter Lembikisa and Stoke City’s Ki-Jana Hoever will return from their respective loans, but neither player is expected to be considered ready to go up to the English premier league.
Although it appears likely that they will go out on loan once more, moving elsewhere is still a possibility. From the perspective of transfer rumors, Matheus Cunha makes an intriguing figure.
The Brazilian, who is among the team’s most valuable players, has a close working connection with O’Neil and has been called “irreplaceable” for Wolves in the past.
In addition, the midfielder intimated in a recent social media post that Wolves supporters should anticipate more from him in the upcoming season.
Likely to Leave
Joao Gomes, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Pedro Neto
This season, Joao Gomes has garnered a reputation for his determination and enthusiasm, and he has rapidly become a Molineux fan favorite.
Many teams have expressed interest in him because of his all-action style, most notably Manchester United. They have reportedly scouted him multiple times this term and are prepared to replace Casemiro with the £40 million man, according to the Mirror.
Ait-Nouri Rayan is another player that might be traded. Once more, United appears to be a possible destination as they look to replace Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia at left back due to injury.
In Pedro Neto’s instance, Madeley asserts that transfer arrangements have been largely centered around the money from his sale, and there has been a fundamental expectation that he would move on.
It’s unknown how much his most recent hamstring issues have lowered the asking price or perhaps turned off potential buyers. Madeley thinks Wolves can succeed without the incredibly gifted Portugal international, even if O’Neil and Wolves would love to retain him around.
His sale would also bring in much-needed transfer funds. The winger is reportedly attracting interest from Manchester City and Newcastle United, and Wolves may ask a club record £60 million for the 24-year-old.
Almost Certain to Leave
Pablo Sarabia, Fabio Silva, Daniel Podence, Goncalo Guedes
As Pablo Sarabia approaches the last year of his contract, his future is becoming less definite.
At the end of the season, his play declined enough for Wolves to reasonably entertain any serious bids. Turkiye Gazetesi, a Turkish news outlet, revealed that Besiktas had been in touch with Sarabia’s delegates, with “first meetings” reportedly going well back in April.
Another player who is certain to leave after a lackluster loan at Rangers is Fabio Silva. Nevertheless, it’s reported that Sevilla and AC Milan are two of the teams considering a possible transfer.
Daniel Podence (Olympiacos) and Goncalo Guedes (Villarreal) also seem highly likely to depart after their loans, with the two having allegedly burned bridges at Wolves.
