Julen Lopetegui was named West Ham United’s new manager this morning, and it’s said that the Spaniard already wants to add one player from Wolves to the team.
Following the Hammers’ split from David Moyes, the former Molineux manager has finally returned to management, agreeing to a two-year contract.
After leaving Wolves a few days before the 2023–24 season, Lopetegui has stayed in England and has been open about his search for a new Premier League position.
Nothing emerged during the recently ended season. However, West Ham has suddenly struck. Lopetegui stated this morning, via whufc.com: “I think our platform is excellent. Naturally, I believe that the past few years have been excellent for building this foundation, but as a coach, my goal is always to improve, set greater and higher goals, and inspire and develop the squad and players so that they can compete—after all, that is what football is all about. We have high hopes for this.
Pablo Sanz, the assistant head coach, Oscar Caro, the head of performance and assistant coach, Juan Vicente Peinado, the head of analysis and assistant coach, Borja De Alba, the fitness coach, and Edu Rubio are all joining Lopetegui, according to confirmation from West Ham.
Additionally, Lopetegui might soon raid his former team, Wolves, for a single player.
The Wolves captain Max Kilman may be the target of West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui.
Shortly after Lopetegui was named West Ham’s new head coach, The Sun revealed that the Spaniard might want to sign Wolves captain Max Kilman. Kilman was seen by Gary O’Neil as essential because he participated in every minute of Wolves’ 2023–2024 Premier League campaign.
Following Craig Dawson’s injury towards the end of the season, the £50,000-per-week star suffered a bit. However, after taking over as captain from Ruben Neves, it was generally another respectable campaign for the Englishman.
The Sun claims that Wolves would ask for almost £45 million if Kilman were to be sold this summer.
The Hammers are reportedly currently the front-runners. It was also reported yesterday night that West Ham is pursuing Fabricio Bruno, a player for whom Wolves made an approach last year, suggesting that Lopetegui is eager to make changes to the defense.
Kilman and West Ham have long been associated, therefore it was only a matter of time until Lopetegui’s appointment as the new Irons manager was confirmed. During his brief stay at Molineux, Kilman made 24 games under the Spaniard, and it is certain that the current captain of Wolves had an impact on him.
Kilman’s 2023–24 campaign was quite lackluster; although having a good middle, their play experienced a significant decline in the latter few months.
If a significant offer were made, the majority of Wolves supporters would likely just wish to see him go. In the end, he has demonstrated over the previous few years that he is a reliable center-back in the Premier League. We’ll have to wait and see, but for now, this is definitely something to watch.
