The Dallas Cowboys, an NFC contender, may surprise cut $39 million playmaker wide receiver Brandin Cooks this offseason. According to a source, America’s squad may have to cut or move the veteran during contract discussions. The team is in a difficult situation, so cutting some salaries in order to keep Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb would entail making sacrifices. However, Cooks did not perform as well as they had hoped last season.

Lamb and Prescott are approaching the final year of their contracts, with a $55.45 million cap hit in 2024. Time is running out for the Cowboys to work their magic and save room in order to offer fresh offers. They’re hopeful that neither player would hold out this year, as they’ll be searching for a new contract before their final season. If that’s the case, the Cowboys may be forced to make quick decisions to conserve room, such as cutting or moving Cooks. Micah Parsons is also eligible for an extension this year, but he isn’t rushing to acquire one despite missing the first day of OTAs. With only $1.925 million in cap space, the Cowboys may need to make some difficult decisions.

It’s a creative way but that means missing out on a player that’s been a part of the team for the last season. However, they could target a receiver in the market like Hunter Renfrow or Michael Thomas but that isn’t expected. The thing about is that the Cowboys could save their financial casualty by extending Prescott and Lamb. It’s a tricky situation but one to watch.

The Cowboys’ decision to move on from Cooks does not seem horrible if they have the depth for it. However, with Michael Gallup’s dismissal, the team now has only two reliable receivers. Dallas cannot afford to lose Cooks until they can find a replacement. They were able to bring in Zay Jones, but he eventually signed with the Cardinals. The Cowboys have done little to nothing to enhance their roster this summer, so it should come as no surprise if they release Cooks. However, if Lamb is holding, Cooks will have to step up as their new WR1. The receiving outlook does not appear great for a squad that had hoped to go “all in” this offseason. KaVontae Turpin.

However, there may be viable choices for America’s team, but will they be able to replicate Cooks’ performance? Most likely not, but that may be the only option available to them instead of waiting. The Cowboys are confident that a deal can be reached for their superstars. Here are some possible destinations for Cooks if Dallas moves on.

Anyone who joins the Kansas City Chiefs has a chance at a ring. Cooks has been a journeyman throughout his career, and if he becomes available, he may join a high-powered attack. Rashee Rice appears to be out for the season if he gets into more trouble, but Marquise Brown’s leadership of the group does not look bright. This is why they drafted Xavier Worthy, but he will need some time to learn to the offense.

The Baltimore Ravens are another potential Super Bowl contender. They haven’t been able to find a consistent wideout since Odell Beckham Jr. departed to Miami. Cooks could be an inexpensive option without spending too much money. Cooks, on the other hand, may fit into Carolina’s scheme under Bryce Young if they replace Adam Thielen. They were able to obtain Diontae Johnson in a trade, but they may not be finished acquiring the necessary components for Young. Cooks could easily be the WR3 and help Thielen raise his production this season.
