The Rangers transfer scoop on Jose Cordoba: £3 million defender receives ecstatic status from man who knows best.
According to former Aberdeen and St Johnstone defender John Inglis, if Rangers complete the transfer of Jose Cordoba from Levski Sofia, they will gain a premier defender both on and off the park. Inglis played for the Panama international defender’s current club, Levski, after two spells at Pittodrie, and concluded his career in Bulgaria with Botev Plovdiv before becoming an agent in the country. And he has spoken with his current client, midfielder Andrian Kraev, a teammate of the Rangers target. Philippe Clement is on the verge of finalizing a deal for Central America. The Light Blues have accepted personal terms with the Panama international and are set to negotiate a fee with Levski Sofia.
Reports in Bulgaria have claimed that the fee could be around £3.2m but that would include future add-ons that are built into the transfer. The initial upfront deal is likely to be closer to £2 million. The 22-year-old, who has 10 caps, is regarded as one of Bulgaria’s best defenders, which drew the notice of Ibrox head of recruitment Nils Koppen. Cordoba, who plays on the left side of defence, was at Ibrox on a VIP visit for the Kilmarnock game last month, and since then, Levski Sofia has left him out of their starting lineup despite increasing interest.
And Inglis told the Scottish Sun, “I spoke with Andrian about Cordoba. And he has stated that he is not only the best defense in Bulgaria, a top professional and player, but also a fantastic person. Andrian pays Cordoba high praise, and he believes if he leaves Levski, he will do well for Rangers or any other club. This summer, Clement’s top aim has been to bolster the Rangers’ backline. Cordoba will be followed by a left-back to replace Borna Barisic, who has negotiated a transfer to Turkish club Trabzonspor. Out-of-contract John Lundstram is anticipated to make the same move as Barisic.
Brazilian defender Jefte has been a long-time target. He’s on loan from Fluminense. The Cypriot club APOEL has the option to sign him. The 20-year-old is waiting because he is aware of Rangers’ interest, despite the fact that they have other choices for the summer. Rangers have also been keeping an eye on Rapid Bucharest’s Kosovan forward Albion Rrahmani.
