Robbie Savage has made his championship play-off final prediction. Southampton or Leeds United?

The most recent pundit to make a prediction for the Championship play-off final between Southampton and Leeds United is Robbie Savage.

The two teams will square off at Wembley on Sunday in an attempt to win the final spot in the Premier League for the next season.

Leeds and Southampton were predicted by OPTA’s supercomputer to go to the final, and it’s safe to say that both teams performed as expected, winning their semi-final matches with ease.

In the second leg last Thursday, Leeds easily defeated Norwich City 4-0, and a day later, Southampton triumphed over West Bromwich Albion.

The Saints were the only team to defeat Daniel Farke’s team in the league, despite the fact that they ended the regular season three points behind Leeds.

Savage makes a prediction for Southampton vs. Leeds. This week’s game is on Sunday, and a number of commentators have already made their predictions.

Ally McCoist is one of many who believes Leeds will win on penalties.

Dion Dublin, on the other hand, believes Southampton will win because he likes the manner Russell Martin has them playing this year.

Given that both teams were demoted together a year ago, this play-off final may be the best in a number of years.

In order to avoid the 10% drop in parachute payments that takes place in the second season following relegation, they will also be driven to secure an instant return to the Premier League.

Speaking on the most recent “On Another Planet Podcast” edition, former Leicester City player Savage predicted Leeds to win.

“I simply think Leeds’ attacking threat will be too much for them,” he stated, adding that Southampton’s style would work well on the expansive Wembley pitch.

As a neutral, I would prefer to see Leeds in the Premier League over Southampton.

Leeds vs. Southampton will be officiated by who? To be fair, Leeds don’t have the best record when John Brooks is in the middle of things.

He will be the official caller for Sunday’s tournament. As it happens, Brooks last served as an official for Leeds during a September match against Southampton, which resulted in a comfortable 3-1 victory for the Whites.

Not only that, but he has officiated just one Championship game this season. Sunday’s match will utilize VAR, as it has done since May 2022 for similar events, much like the League One and Two finals this past weekend.

At the PGMOL headquarters in Stockley Park, Jarred Gillett, the referee who refereed Leeds’ victory over Norwich in the semi-final, will oversee VAR.
