Paul Merson yells indignation following the events in the West Ham United vs. Manchester City match.

On Sunday, May 19, Paul Merson lost his cool as Mohammed Kudus’ incredible goal for West Ham United versus Manchester City was flagged for a video review.

One of the season’s goals was scored by the Ghanaian international with an overhead kick, but the Irons fell short 3-1 at The Etihad Stadium that day.

Merson could be heard yelling live on the air when VAR reviewed the goal and appeared to have given his beloved Arsenal hope in the Premier League title battle.

Merson was not pleased with the situation at The Etihad Stadium when he spoke live on Sky Sports News (16:36, May 19). He said, “Get rid of VAR.”

The Premier League may do away with VAR? Following Wolves’ initial attempt to try and eliminate VAR, which garnered the backing of supporters worldwide, it has been a significant story this week.

Kudus scored possibly the Hammers’ season-opening goal on an afternoon that mattered very little to them, so thankfully they refrained from interfering.

Given that City is such a formidable power in the Premier League, David Moyes didn’t have high expectations for his final game either, but at least he gained some experience.

The Kudus goal was a hint of the magic that Julen Lopetegui may develop further, and he will be keeping a close eye on things as he gets ready to take over at the London Stadium.

As he enters his first season as manager, the Spaniard will be eager to hang onto these big names, so David Sullivan and the board must provide it to him.
