Josh Sargent of Norwich City, who eliminated the Canaries from the playoffs, is reportedly a target for Leeds United this summer.
As they prepare for this weekend’s playoff final at Wembley, the Whites are just one win away from playing in the Premier League once again.
They defeated Norwich City 4-0 in the second leg on Thursday, and now they play Southampton.
Leeds reportedly plans to add to Norwich’s suffering following their elimination from the playoffs by making a move for Josh Sargent, a striker, according to The Sunday Mirror.
In the event that Leeds triumphs at Wembley and makes it back to the top division, it is rumored that Daniel Farke is considering a reunion with the USMNT player.
But Bournemouth, Brentford, and Fulham—three Premier League teams—are also said to be interested in signing the 24-year-old. Leeds isn’t the only team trying to get him.
Sargent scored 29 Championship goals in his previous two seasons since being demoted from the top division in 2022.
He concluded this season with 16 goals and 2 assists. Even if the Canaries stay in the playoffs the next season, it is unlikely that Leeds will be able to acquire Sargent at a low price because of his 2028 contract.
He’s not exactly a totally prolific number nine, but Sargent would be an upgrade on what we have while providing the right kind of profile.
Leeds need a nine that can do a bit of everything like Bamford, and Sargent is that, but not as injury prone and more consistent.
If the fee isn’t too expensive after promotion, Sargent would be a smart way to build the depth up top.
