Why Wolves loanee Daniel Podence was in tears after final Olympiacos home game

According to reports, Wanderers had been considering selling Podence, but at that time, no acceptable offers had been made. In the end, Wolves made the decision to protect his value by facilitating a loan return to his previous team and extending his contract at Molineux. Podence’s season in Greece has been excellent.

In 45 games played in all competitions, he has 14 goals and 12 helpers for other players. After the game, Podence was visibly upset. Olympiacos played their final home game of the season on Wednesday night against AEK Athens. The final Olympiacos home game of 2023–24 left Wolves player Daniel Podence in tears.

Olympiacos defeated AEK Athens 2-0 on Wednesday night in their ninth Super League play-off match.

The team is four points behind leaders PAOK and cannot win the league title with just one game remaining against Panathinaikos. Olympiacos, though, will have to wait until the European final.

At the end of the month, they play Italian team Fiorentina in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Whether or not that is Podence’s last game for Olympiacos is yet unknown. After the match against AEK last night, he made a really moving speech.

Podence has previously stated that he is happy to remain with Olympiacos. Last week, Wolves boss Gary O’Neil hinted that loan players might come back to the team this summer to have “conversations” over their futures.

Additionally, he said that the choice will depend on the players’ desire to play for the team and his assessment of their potential.

After the match against AEK, Podence was obviously very emotional, but it didn’t seem like a player who knew he wouldn’t be returning.

After the game, the vice president of the team, Konstantinos Karapapas, insisted on Instagram that Podence’s feelings had nothing to do with his decision to go and were only a result of it being the last home game.

He is adamant that the player was “touched” by the fans’ displays of affection and wants Podence to stay after his loan is over.

“People, relax,” is how Gate 7 International roughly translated his message from his story. He had strong feelings. Although this was the final game played at home this season, he and we still want to play much more at home.

Even Podence has acknowledged that the circumstance was what made him cry. He is quoted by Gate 7 as saying, “I got emotional because it was the last game in the Karaiskakis this season.

What happens with Podence this summer is still to be seen. A permanent departure from Wolves this summer does appear possible, though, in light of what happened last night.
