The “big day” that spurred Celtic to win the league is identified by Callum McGregor.

This season, there have been numerous games that Celtics supporters may look back on as pivotal occasions. In my opinion, Celtic’s survival in the title fight was ultimately ensured by the 2-1 victory over Hibs. Celtic that evening gained two things from that victory.

During his first game wearing a Celtic jersey, the on-loan Norwich City striker Adam Idah gained a great deal of confidence in addition to helping Brendan Rodgers salvage two crucial points from the capital.

Idah continued to have a significant impact on Celtic’s championship retention by scoring goals against Motherwell and Rangers. Callum McGregor, though, has another plan, one that might surprise the Celtic fanbase.

The Rangers match that gave Celtic the motivation to win The Celtic captain was asked which moment from the previous few months he felt was significant to Celtic’s historic title win as he was reflecting on the season following last night’s 5-0 victory over Kilmarnock.

It’s simply been a combination of little victories and building, building, building, McGregor remarked [Sky Sports].

Probably the Ibrox game, I suppose. “The game cost us a lot of money. We started out two to one, then two apiece, and finally 3-2 to one, ultimately losing the one.

“I thought that was a significant day because it showed us that you could play football there in a hostile environment, stay committed to the game, and show resilience to finish it out when things got tough.”

“We really motored and kicked on after that big day, and we just need to stay there,” the speaker said.

There were other instances this season, as I mentioned (that was very Brendan Rodgers-y!), where Celtic supporters could argue that it swung the league in their team’s favor.

That Rangers knew they needed to win this game in order to distance themselves from Celtic, though, is what makes McGregor’s stand out to me.

Eight points would have separated the Ibrox club and themselves if they had won that match. On the other hand, it’s certain that drawing a game they had to win hurt them.

After losing at Ross County and drawing with Dundee, Celtic bounced back and won their next seven games to win the league as the Ibrox club’s bottle burst.
