Sir Rod Stewart blasts talkSPORT’s ‘disrespect’ as he replies to Rangers and Celtic accusation.
Sir Rod Stewart has lambasted Simon Jordan for his comments about Scottish football on talkSPORT, claiming Rangers could compete in England with equal resources. Graeme Souness fought with the businessman and broadcaster on talkSPORT on May 13, questioning the quality of the Gers and Celtic.
Stewart was offended by Jordan’s comments, so he took to Instagram (15 May) to express his displeasure. He stated, “I’m extremely sick and tired of the ongoing contempt for Scottish football demonstrated down south. Especially by Mr. Simon’motor mouth’ Jordan. It’s our game; we know it’s not the Premier League or La Liga, but it’s ours, and I enjoy it. “As Graeme Souness correctly pointed out on TalkSport the other day, if Celtic or Rangers were in the Championship with the money that Sky is dishing out, we would be able to compete in a couple of years, without a question.
“So shut the [expletive] up Jordan and leave Scottish football alone.”
How can Rangers compete with Celtic next season?
It has been a frustrating season for Rangers given they have lost out on the league title to their bitter rivals once again.
Brendan Rogers’ side has now won three in a row following a comfortable victory over Kilmarnock on May 15.
The Light Blues had a rough start under Giovanni van Bronkhorst, and things only got worse with Michael Beale in command. There is little doubt that Philippe Clement has stabilised the ship, but an Old Firm defeat at Parkhead saw the title battle slip away.
There will be a need for new signings over the summer transfer window as the Belgian looks to close the gap in the title race.
This will be especially necessary should he lose key players this summer which may leave his squad bare.
There is value in the market, and Rangers can once again uncover some great deals thanks to the existing scouting networks. They need to identify some elite players to help close the gap with Celtic next season.
