Derek McInnes’ Rangers rejection does not mean no second chance, as punter’s Clement replacement demand is deconstructed.

Derek McInnes’ Rangers rejection does not mean no second chance, as punter’s Clement replacement demand is deconstructed.

Derek McInnes turned down the Rangers once, but it does not imply he will do so again. The Kilmarnock manager’s stock is rising again after leading the club to fourth place and a spot in the Europa League qualifiers. Wins over both Glasgow clubs along the way drew attention, with McInnes being hailed as Steve Clarke’s natural replacement when the Scotland manager retires.

Philippe Clement will have the opportunity to wrestle the title back from Celtic next year. Some more radical Light Blues fans are already pushing for a change, albeit that could be a natural response to the Hoops winning the title. However, they were defeated in the Scottish Cup Final by their rivals, and Clement would need to get off to a good start next season to avoid the pressure from the fans. He intends to revamp the squad at Ibrox this summer, and the board will be hoping that the Belgian will put his stamp on it even more.

One Super Scoreboard caller however, isn’t for Clement ripping it up in the close season. Instead, he wants McInnes appointed and a number of Kilmarnock stars to come with him.

McInnes was offered the job whilst Aberdeen manager back in December 2017. And while Wilson is aware that in the eyes of fans, one no should rule out any further approaches, he isn’t so sure the outcome would be the same should, in the future, Rangers come calling for McInnes once more.

“He (caller) says he doesn’t want a rebuild but he’s getting rid of the manager and wants a good few Kilmarnock players in, so that’s pretty much the start of a rebuild. You bring a new manager in, you bring a new staff in. You bring a new staff in, you bring in totally new ideas and a different philosophy of how you play.

Derek McInnes’ stock is rising and he’s a very good manager. A top manager. Killie fans will not want to hear it but I don’t think he’ll be at Killie for the rest of his career, of course. I think he will go on to bigger and better things., whether that’s the national team or down south for another crack at that. “He’s already turned down the Rangers job, remember, when Rangers fans thought it was a shoo in he would get it and we thought it might have been agreed. Apparently he didn’t want to take it at that time. “Would he want it again in the future? Maybe. Would Rangers fans thank him for that? There’s a train of thought that some Rangers have.
