Adam Schefter’s Latest Update on Dak Prescott Contract Talks
The Dallas Cowboys’ future beyond this season might be quite unknown, and much of that uncertainty stems from quarterback Dak Prescott’s contract predicament. He’s just under contract for one more year, so he’ll be a free agent in March 2025 unless he agrees to an extension with them before then.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, no “noticeable progress” has been made on contract talks between the two sides.
Prescott has been the Cowboys’ face since he was a rookie in 2016, and he quickly took over as quarterback after Tony Romo suffered a spinal compression fracture, thus ending his career.
While he performed admirably during the regular season and was briefly considered a top MVP candidate in 2023, he has a history of faltering in the playoffs. In 2021 and 2022, he struggled in postseason losses to the rival San Francisco 49ers, and in January, he threw two early interceptions as Dallas fell behind 27-0 to the Green Bay Packers before losing 48-32 in the Wild Card game. The squad hasn’t advanced to the NFC Championship Game since 1995, when it won the Super Bowl championship.
Winning it all is the standard of greatness for the Cowboys and their fans, and it is very hard to imagine Prescott doing his part to help the Cowboys do just that.
Some believe that unless he performs well in this season’s playoffs, Dallas should consider moving on from him and seeing if backup Trey Lance has what it takes to succeed.
