Great memories of Celtic winning the league at Rugby Park, let’s hope tonight creates another one.
We have many happy memories of Rugby Park, especially when it comes to winning league titles this century, and we can secure the title there tonight.
Stan Petrov’s goal secured the championship for Martin O’Neill’s illustrious team back in 2004. Then, three years later, Gordon Strachan’s team won the championship thanks to an incredible last-second free kick by—who else?—Shusuke Nakamura.
In 2012, Neil Lennon’s team defeated Kilmarnock 6-0 in Ayrshire to earn the first of nine consecutive league titles. On a day when the stadium was filled primarily with Celtic supporters, we witnessed an incredible game of football and an amazing atmosphere.
Though not formally, we can also assert that we won the championship at Rugby Park in 2019. Broony was, of course, famously sent out by a furious Bobby Madden after earning up a second yellow card for his celebrations, when a last-gasp Scott Brown goal saw us win a crucial three points in a game still remembered as “when Scott brown won the league at Rugby Park.”
Thus, for the Celtic support, it is a field that brings back four wonderful championship winning memories. In order to avoid having to wait until Saturday, let’s hope that this evening is another one of those.
We believed that Dundee’s 2-0 advantage last night would have secured the title even in the absence of Celtic, and that’s the least effective method of advancing. It most likely would have happened if Dundee hadn’t given up right before halftime.
The Rangers ultimately prevailed 5-2, reducing our goal differential advantage from six to three.
Thus, we must finish this tonight. Additionally, don’t forget that Celtic FC Women are playing their penultimate league match of the season away to Hearts.
That game takes off at 6 p.m. and is broadcast live on BBC Alba if you are watching on TV instead of being one of the fortunate supporters with a ticket.
To win the first-ever women’s league title for Celtic Football Club, Elena Sadiku’s team must triumph tonight and then defeat Hibs at Celtic Park on Sunday afternoon.
Definitely worth viewing on Sky Sports this evening before the match at Rugby Park.
Celtic will be the first club to win both the men’s and women’s crowns in the same season if everything goes according to plan. Celtic will celebrate winning not one, but two titles this weekend!
