Rangers are expected to lose out to Feyenoord in the hunt to sign left-back Gjis Smal this summer.
Rangers are expected to lose out to Feyenoord in the race to sign left-back Gjis Smal this summer, according to 1908.NL. The Dutch outlet stated on its website that the defender will quit FC Twente at the conclusion of the season and become a free agent.
Unfortunately, Smal will sign a multi-year contract with Feyenoord, keeping him out of the hands of both Rangers and Celtic. Rangers set to sign a new left-back? With all of the talk around Borna Barisic and Ridvan Yilmaz in recent months, it is unsurprising that left-back is being sought. Philippe Clement arrived at Ibrox with a squad in desperate need of major surgery, just a year after Michael Beale tried and failed horribly.
Barisic’s contract expires in a few weeks, and he is thought to have decided to join Trabzonspor in Turkey, where John Lundstram may also play. Smal was a target that piqued people’s interest around Ibrox, but it appears that he will not be joining Clement, who will have to go elsewhere with Nils Koppen now.
