Premier League teams challenge Celtic to replace Joe Hart, a player Brendan Rodgers had previously desired to buy

Looking to replace Joe Hart, Celtic are considering their options in front of the summer window.

After Joe Hart announced he would be retiring from professional football at the end of this season, Celtic began looking for a new goalkeeper.

The Hoops have been associated with several possible goalkeepers at Parkhead, and now a new report has them associated with an EFL Championship goalie.

Brendan Rodgers has been keeping an eye on Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy as Celtic aim to bolster their goalkeeping corps with a fresh face. Mailsport, who also assert that Liverpool and Newcastle United of the Premier League are rivals of the Bhoys, makes this allegation.

The 34-year-old took back his spot in Southampton’s starting lineup following Gavin Bazunu’s Achilles injury last month. McCarthy played brilliantly in Southampton’s first-leg semi-final matchup with West Brom on Sunday and maintained a spotless record at The Hawthorns.

This Friday, everything is on the line at St Mary’s. McCarthy is the type of goalie Rodgers is searching for; he was interested in signing him in the past.

The Saints player, who has spent Premier League seasons with Reading, Queens Park Rangers, and Crystal Palace, is hoping to return to the top division of football. He was demoted with Southampton as well, and he is currently assisting them in their efforts to advance.

McCarthy’s St. Mary’s contract expires at the conclusion of this season, so if Celtic can outbid the competition, they might sign the seasoned player for nothing.

The 34-year-old’s first Championship start of the season came against Preston North End, and he recorded a clean sheet in the process.

He also maintained his composure against Leeds United, another team that was vying for relegation, as Southampton triumphed 2-1. McCarthy faces Leeds or Norwich City in the play-off final on May 26th, which might serve as the ideal promotional campaign for his next professional move, if he can keep West Brom out of the game during this forthcoming second leg.
