Jefte and Jose Cordoba Rangers transfer bulletin as roadblock thrown up and defender left out of squad pre-move

Rangers’ attempt to sign Jefte this summer could be thwarted because APOEL want to trigger his release clause. The left-back was close to joining Glasgow in January, but the Cypriot club refused to play with their loan star. Fluminense had apparently agreed to an agreement with the Light Blues, so the club brought him in on a short-term basis. APOEL would have had to enable an early leave from his loan contract for it to be approved, but they refused, forcing Philippe Clement to instead strike a handshake deal for a summer move in order to be available.

However, APOEL president Prodromos Petrides has stated that he intends to trigger the condition that was originally included in his loan.
“We have until May 31 and there is room for the clause. We should have the player’s signature,” Petrides told radio station Super Sport FM.

“We have communicated to Fluminense that we intend to exercise our right to buy the player. It is not an easy venture to fund, but we have covered large quantities of debt. We have a lot better financial situation to handle.” Meanwhile, center-back target Jose Cordoba appears to be a slightly easier move to complete after being left out of Levski Sofia’s match against Cherno More. The Panamanian international trained in the build-up and was available, but was left out of the team to keep him fit and able to make the reputed £3 million move to Ibrox. Cordoba, 23, was a visitor in Rangers’ 4-1 victory over Kilmarnock just last week.
