After taking home the young Hammer of the year trophy, George Earthy is praised highly by two West Ham greats.

When a young player breaks through into the first team and has those memorable early moments in their career, the supporters will always remember them.

Two outstanding examples are Freddie Sears’ debut goal and Reece Oxford’s early displays. George Earthy’s goal against Luton is likely to be another.

He told the official site, “I have so many people to thank, especially the coaches I’ve worked with during my time at the Academy, and the senior coaches for giving me this chance.”

His efforts in training and for the youth team have been so excellent that he is not only one of the few youth players to get a chance under Moyes, but he has also been named the young Hammer of the year, something he describes as “a huge honour.”

As far as coaches go, Steve Potts has clearly had a significant influence on his development and feels that he deserves all the opportunities that are awaiting him.

“It has been a really tough one to pick, but I don’t think anyone in the squad would begrudge George getting the award because he has been fantastic for us,” Potts beamingly said.

George, he bestows upon you much quality. The manner the U21s want to and can play with him in the eleven is further enhanced by his superior football intelligence.

In addition to providing you with goals and assists, he puts in a lot of work and consistently ranks first in our running stats. What he offers the team is invaluable when all of that is taken into account.

He has such a passion for the game that you often have to drag him in. It all starts with how intensely he trains every day. He has been so terrific this year that both the coaching staff and I cannot say enough positive things about him.

One of Earthy’s biggest role models growing up—as a die-hard West Ham fan—would have been Mark Noble. The privilege of working under the Hammers legend is unfathomable, but he must be ecstatic about the recognition the Hammers legend has bestowed upon him. ”

This award is fully deserved and fitting recognition for the fantastic season that George has enjoyed,” Noble said. “He has a fantastic attitude towards his development. He works hard on and off the pitch, listens to advice, and always wants to get better.

It is testament to his personality and talent that the first-team players have accepted him into the group, and you could see when he came on against Fulham last month that they immediately trusted him.

George has been a part of the Academy since he was six years old, so he is quite familiar with the Football Club and enjoys being here. He left the house with me as his mascot when he was seven years old (I still have the picture), and it has been a joy to see him mature as a person and a player ever since.

“I’ll never forget that George was fifteen years old when I captained the first team about four years ago. While my kid and I were at Chadwell Heath, George requested if I would view some of his videos with him in the video room.

He wanted to learn and find that additional bit to help him advance. That gave me a complete picture of his mindset and his will to improve. He has everything it takes to have a bright future at this Club if he keeps up his hard work and builds on the improvements he has made this year.

After listening to Noble and Potts’ assessments of him, it’s hard not to think that he could be the next great football player to come out of the academy. Of course, the hard job is just getting started, but elites tend to think that way.

He is truly worthy of the young Hammer of the Year title, his first Premier League goal, and his recent opportunity. Next season, hopefully, we’ll see a lot more of him.
